Kids are fascinated by the light and shadow and the Artplay workshop ‘Space Shapes’ is all about exploring the effects of silhouettes and colours in darkness in an imaginary journey into space.
Art educator Hayley Rivers set up five different stations exploring a different skill or sensory elements.
We play with making shapes and watching the effects of shadows using an old-fashioned projector….
….make alien masks using craft materials…
…sculpt funny space creatures out of play dough…
…and play with juggling balls which glow and change colour!
The session was perfectly pitched for the 2-5 year old audience as it’s similar to the kind of set ups you often find in kindergartens where kids can explore a range of experiences at their leisure. We got to make something, play with something and take something home to show mum and dad!
The next sessions of Space Shapes are on Wednesday 7 September and are currently sold out, though it’s always worthwhile getting on a waitlist or turning up on the day in case there’s a no show.
