HOT: Playhut Westgate, Altona North

PlayHut Westgate Party and Play Centre at Westgate Indoor Sports Altona is not the most flashy indoor play centre that we’ve been to but it does offer some advantages over other play centres in Melbourne.

The centre was renovated in 2018 so it is clean and new. The equipment has been expanded so that it now caters for children aged 9 months to 10 years, whereas before it was restricted to kids up to 6 years.

There is a three-story climbing gym, ball pit, giant slides and ball cannon.

The ride on toys are particularly popular!

Little ones can enjoy a separate softly padded infant and toddler area.

PlayHut is set up as effectively one big gated area. So you can pretty much spot your kids wherever they are from one of the many couches or tables. There is no gate that you had to keep opening and shutting to access the play area, which might be helpful for adults supervising kids that still need some assistance with the equipment.

Just note that the toilets are outside of the centre, within the main sports complex.

PlayHut is the only play centre where you can bring your own food in (though you can’t have it close to the play equipment – fair enough). This is a real money-saver but also better from a nutritional standpoint as the food options are pretty standard play centre fare.

Finally, it only cost $6 for under 2s and $9 for over 2s (adults free) and $10 for kids 7+ years. All kids are $5 on Tuesdays!

You can stay as long as your kids find it interesting! You can also join as a member for free to access further discounts such as $2 play days every month, discounts on birthday parties, L ittle Roo’s Soccer School and Westgate Vacation Care and loyalty card rewards.

When it’s hot, wet or cold outside, a good indoor play centre is a saving grace. Cheap and cheerful PlayHut ticks all the boxes and it’s even in the same complex as Airodrome Inflatables and Trampoline Park so your kids can enjoy a full day of energy-burning fun!
