Kiddyrock runs fun and educational children’s music classes in Melbourne, with classes in Yarraville, West Footscray and Thornbury plus other locations throughout Melbourne.
I am a huge advocate for music education as part of every childhood and Kiddyrock makes learning and making music fun!
The music and art collective run weekly programs for preschoolers as well as making music, writing songs, playing games and hosting fun dance parties.
Baby 2.0 and I were invited to our local Kiddyrock class at Kindred Studios. Our class is run with three instructions, including Ally the bubbly founder of Kiddyrock.
Because most participants attend weekly the instructors all seem to know the children and carers by name and make an effort to engage each child individually.
Our class is fast-paced and active, to keep little hands and minds engaged.
In one hour we read a story, sing songs, play percussion instruments, throw up a parachute, learn the basics of musical rhythm notation and even finish off with some yoga. There is a loose theme to tie all the activities together every week.
The aim of the program is to help under 5s build confidence, concentration, sensory awareness, language and motor skills. It seems to suit children 2+ the most because they’re able to stand and sit without assistance and really explore their bodies and the music. They do have a babies program which I assume is slower in pace and less active.
As well as term programs they run school holiday sessions, tailored school programs and special events. On Saturday 2 December they are running a free play workshop at a Christmas Bazaar as well as selling instruments! Ukes, xylophones, egg shakers and drums!
- Kiddyrock workshops are $20 per session.
- themed programs run to the school term and cost between $180 – $220 depending on how many weeks each term runs for.
- Siblings come half price.
- Make up sessions are available during term.
- They offer trials once programs are underway and these can be organised as a one off payment.
