HOT: Toddler and Kinder Circus Club, Footscray Community Arts Centre, 45 Moreland Street, Footscray

Circus class Footscray

Footscray Community Arts Centre hold various family-friendly events throughout the year and one of the regular classes is the Toddler and Kinder Circus Club.

Circus classes are not only great fun, illness they enhance kids’ vestibular development through learning to balance, roll and jump. There’s also an element of social skills education like learning to take your turn and sharing.

The teacher Franca has had decades of circus experience in Switzerland and Melbourne and she has been the Women’s Circus in-house trainer for over a decade.

The Toddler and Kinder Circus Club has two sessions – one for 1-3 year olds and one for 3-5 year olds. Our 1-3 year olds class started off with a circuit involving a landing mat, running in a squiggly line, star jumps and rocket jumps, learning to balance on rollers, crawling through a tunnel and roly-poly along the mat. Then we played with hoops – rolling, jumping and crawling through them. Then onto the trapeze and swings! That was Lady AB’s favourite part, though she was too scared to try the rope ladder swing.

While 1 year old babies can start the classes I think crawlers would have trouble with many of the physical activities so best to wait till your kids are at least able to walk. As one of the older kids in her class Lady AB was able to use more of the equipment without too much support from me.

After your class is over your $20 fee includes a free coffee at the kid-friendly Happy River Café in the Footscray Community Arts Centre complex. Also check out the Music for Toddlers class held every week at FCAC.
