HOT: New Farm Park, New Farm, Brisbane

2012 11 06

When you’re parents to an active toddler you quickly learn to scope out playgrounds wherever you go. And the most amazing playground we’ve visited so far is in New Farm Park, Brisbane.

Yes the space is large and there’s loads of play equipment – swings, slides, climbing frames, rockers – but the best thing is that it’s like an extended treehouse interwined in several large Moreton Bay fig trees. Not only do these quintessentially Brisbane-esque trees provide a natural shady cover for the playground, but the branches and roots are fun to climb on, around and through. What wonderful imaginary games you could play in all those nooks and crannies!

Lady AB loves this playground, racing around playing on everything and anything, and it’s guaranteed to keep her entertained to exhaustion.

When it’s time for a rest there’s shaded tables and benches plus barbecues right next to the playground or you can lay out a picnic elsewhere in grassy New Farm Park. Public toilets are close by and the nearby coffee van does a humming trade doling out caffeine to parents and ice creams to the kids.

The playground is also a great place to visit with kids if you’ve been up early shopping at the fortnightly gourmet New Farm Farmers Markets (2nd & 4th Saturday every Month, 6AM – 12PM) or if you’re attending an exhibition or performance at the Powerhouse.
