Little Kitchen on Lilian is a sweet little cafe tucked away in a residential street in Bulleen. The kitchen is also the home of the Melbourne Cookie Company, pharmacy which means that biscuits, cakes and other sweets are a big focus and provide a huge temptation in the window.

The light-drenched room is small though you can still fit a pram inside. There are numerous high chairs available.

Even better if you go down the back stairs there’s an outdoor area with play equipment and the wooden gates open out onto a council-owned playground!

The savoury menu only has toasted sandwiches with three simple hot breakfast options on Saturdays. So I suggest you head straight to the freshly-made sweets! Everything is made fresh on site.

We stopped for a quick snack before the Heide Art Bubs class and enjoyed a babycino ($1.50) and a slice of coconut cake ($6.50). But we were definitely not leaving without cookies!

The Melbourne Cookie Company’s tagline is ‘A Biscuit For Every Occasion’ and the cookies are fondant-decorated traditional butter biscuits made in a huge variety of themes, cheap including bespoke designs.

Small cookies are $4, large cookies are $5 and Lady AB had great fun selecting our thirteen cookies for $40 and presented in a stunning be-ribboned box (you can also buy online).

Other cookie-related products include kids activity packs ($9.50) with a cookie and various bits and bobs for decoration. The owner said that parents buy them for dinner parties so that the kids are entertained and can make their own dessert. They also run:

  • cookie decorating parties ($28.50-$32.50 per child);
  • school holiday workshops ($15 per child);
  • high teas ($38.50); and
  • special events (hen’s days, baby showers) and you can even choose to self-cater and just hire the venue.

Little Kitchen on Lilian is a place where you can have your cake (or cookie) and eat it too!
