HOT: Little Art Big Art, Woods Street Arts Space, 44 Woods St, Laverton

Little Art Big Art is a children’s art school in Newport run by primary school art teacher and mum of two Rachael Smart. She also has a monthly residency at Wood Street Arts Space in Laverton where she runs free creative workshops for kids on a Saturday called ‘Art Sauce’.

Everyone month at Art Sauce there is a different theme and in our session it’s ‘Blow Art’. The workshop involves oil pastels and splodges of food dye suspended in water and straws. Kids are told to blow their way along their sheet of paper to create unique images.

The workshop isvery relaxed and everyone works at their own pace. Lady AB has great fun mixing colours and seeing the kind of patterns she can make through her straw. She isn’t even interested in the collage that other kids were doing, preferring to draw and blow another picture instead. Rachael and her assistant are great, really encouraging and helpful.

As the next workshop isn’t very busy we stay around and colour in abstract shapes.

After our class we relax in the small courtyard that is part of Wood Street Arts Space and have a quick play on the playground across the road.
