HOT: Bundoora Park Farm, Bundoora

Bundoora Park Farm is part of Cooper’s Settlement and provides an authentic farm experience for children and families within Bundoora Park, the largest park in Melbourne’s northern suburbs.

Bundoora Park Farm

At the farm you can touch, pat and feed some of the farm animals, take a tractor ride to see the kangaroos and emus or explore early 20th century Australian farming life at the Heritage Village. The pony rides were not available during our visit, not sure whether permanently or temporarily.

Bundoora Park Farm

We visited during a weekday during school term and we were one of only 3 families at the farm, so there was plenty of opportunity to explore.

Bundoora Park Farm

We arrived just in time for animal feeding where we were able to bottle feed very excited lambs and kids.

We also went inside the enclosure for the guinea pigs and rabbits (you can pat and pick up the guinea pigs at 11:40am and 2:30pm). All other enclosures cannot be entered except at specific times – you can see the cows being milked at the main animal barn at 3pm and chook house roundup at 4pm.

Baby 2.0 particularly liked the playground, which has been designed with a farm theme. It’s been cleverly built using wood, corrugated iron and water tanks, as well as the old tyres for clambering up the hill!

The farm is reasonably big and we didn’t have time to explore the rest of the Heritage Village at Bundoora Park Farm, which displays Bundoora Park’s history in farm buildings dating back to the 19th century.

Bundoora Park Farm

Bundoora Park Farm is a great place for city kids to learn about farm life and history. It also adjoins the fully accessible, all ages playground Bundoora Park Playspace and the two other play spaces within Bundoora Park as well as picnic areas and wetlands and the Bundoora Park Farmers Markets every 1st Saturday 8am-1pm, so you could easily spend a day exploring the whole park!

For another children’s farm in Melbourne, visit Collingwood Children’s Farm in Abbotsford. It also has a Farmers Market every 2nd Saturday 8am-1pm when entry to the farm is only $2 for adults and kids free.
