What’s On – Australia Day 2019

If you choose to celebrate Australia Day then here’s a list of family-friendly events happening around town on Saturday 26 January 2019. (Photo of the cute flag from the Make Me Iconic Burger).

However, it would be remiss of me to not point out that for Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander communities, Australia Day is considered a day of protest and morning. Every year there are Invasion Day protests; details for the Melbourne protest are here.

Festival of Sails, Geelong Waterfront, Geelong

  • Festival of Sails Geelong (26-28 Jan) – sailing regatta and free community waterfront festival. Full review.
  • Australia Day Seaworks (Wed 25 Jan – Sat 26 Jan) – Ships tours of Tenacious (UK) and the Enterprize Tall Ships, fireworks, BBQ, kids activities.
  • Australia Day Wyndham (Sat 26 Jan) – ‘Spin around’ with 100% Kylie, great music acts, chill out in the Pop Up Park while enjoying the great Aussie movie ‘Babe’, amusement rides and kid’s activities and The Makers Market
  • Australia Day Mt Duneed Estate (Sat 26 Jan) – Enjoy Aussie food specials, live music, frose’ wine and more.
  • Brimbank Australia Day celebrations at Kevin Wheelahan Gardens Sunshine  (Sat 26 Jan) – community BBQ breakfast and entertainment, and as well as a citizenship ceremony.
  • Australia Day in Melton (Sat 26 Jan) – breakfast, displays, Community Achievement Awards and the City’s largest annual citizenship ceremony.
  • Australia Day Wyndham Harbour (Sat 26 Jan) – Live stage entertainment, Face painting, Carnival rides, fireworks.
  • Australia Day Eynesbury Homestead (Sat 26 Jan) – 4 bars, BBQ, Live music, Drinks & food specials, rides.
