Navan Park ‘Rocket Ship Playground’ is an all-ages all-abilities playspace set amongst the greenery of Navan Park and Navan Park Lake in Melton.

Navan Park is huge and provides the facilities for a whole day’s adventure.

You can spot the playground easily within Navan Park thanks to the huge rocket ship in the centre – and the locals fondly call it the ‘Rocketship Playground’. It features two long twisty metal slides curling around a central climbing tower. It’s very similar to the rocket ship installed at Coburg Lake and Buckingham Reserve Sunshine.

Surrounding the rocket ship is other plastic-fantastic equipment.

Babies and toddlers will especially enjoy the sandpit with a small climbing frame and conveyor belts…

Older kids will gravitate towards the ‘Teen’ zone. At one corner of the playground you’ll find a twisting seat/spinner, the “Sky Surfer” – where you can stand up and surf on the suspended surfboard, “Mountain Trek” where you have to sit on or climb across hanging disks and “Trick Skate” with revolving skateboard rockers.

In terms of accessibility, a smooth path surrounds the playground so that you can access most of the equipment (it also doubles as a bike/scooter track), you can park a wheelchair inside the carousel and there is a fenced Liberty swing.

There are a few barbecue shelters, lots of shaded bench seating and water taps. The playground is partially fenced from the free carpark. There are public toilets but they are not near the playground, so the garden beds get a bit of ‘watering’.

Outside of the playground you’ll find plenty of grass as well as a big lake. The lake has a path perimeter too which is great for bikes and scooters.

On weekends if you’re lucky a ice cream van sets up shop in the carpark.
