Dutch art collective We Make Carpets (who do not actually make carpets!) has transformed the children’s gallery into walls of large-scale artworks incorporating patterns made with everyday objects.
There are six new artworks and five interactive installations. The space is colourful and interactive and children are invited to make, create, change and rebuild using pool noodles…
….and twisted rope.
Just be careful as some of the exhibits (eg the shuttlecocks) are not to be touched so only grab things from the storage units housing all materials.
When you’re done at Hands On: We Make Carpets for Kids check out the other current exhibitions suitable for kids inside the NGV, such as Flower Obsession by Yayoi Kusama and ‘Coming Soon Near You‘ by Einat Amir.
- Suitable for babies and toddlers, though watch that they don’t touch artwork;
- There is pram parking outside;
- Head to the sculpture garden afterwards for lunch and a run around; and
- Have lunch or a snack at the NGV’s Gallery Cafe.
