It’s full steam ahead for Christmas festivities all around town!

I’ll be at the Family Festive Picnic at Footscray Park this Saturday 9 December 3-5pm with my high vis vest and clipboard! Wynter Projects and I (with my Wheelie Good Fun hat on) have produced a fun-filled event for City of Maribyrnong, with a Christmas cracker hunt with special messages from Santa inside, hula hooping workshops, face painting and Christmas-themed craft.   • MSO presents Star Wars: The Force Awakens in Concert (Thu 7 Dec – Sun 10 Dec) – exclusive Australian premiere of Star Wars: The Force Awakens in Concert.
  • Santa’s Post Box (Fri 8 Dec – Fri 15 Dec) – write a letter to Santa and receive a personalised response. Post outside the Australia Post GPO and The District, Docklands.
  • Gingerbread Village by Epicure (Fri 8 Dec – Sun 24 Dec) – Admire iconic Melbourne landmarks and locations all made out of gingerbread. Entry is by nominal gold coin donation and all proceeds go to the Royal Children’s Hospital. FULL REVIEW. 
  • Crown Christmas Spectacular (Fri 8 Dec – Mon 1 Jan) – Christmas entertainment and ArtVo pop up.
  • Christmas at Old Treasury (Fri 8 Dec – Fri 5 Jan) – The Old Treasury Building is once again showcasing homemade decorations of the 1920s!
  • Myer Christmas Windows (Fri 8 Dec  – Sun 7 Jan) – The 62nd annual Myer Melbourne Christmas Windows are based on the original story of Elf and ‘The completely and utterly, absolutely perfect Christmas’ written and illustrated by H C Floren. Full review.

  • Santa’s Tree House (Fri 8 Dec – Sun 24 Dec) – Santa Claus is settling into his tree house at The District Docklands and will be available for photos daily. Plus, each child that visits Santa Claus will receive a free colouring-in book with pencils to take home.
  • Play Pod State Library of Victoria (Fri 8 Dec – 13 Mar) – Play Pod is the SLV’s program for children aged under 8 years with activities to read, create and play. This season’s theme is ‘Our Last Trip to the Market’. Full review

  • Big Burger Biannual Watergardens (Thu 7 Dec – Sun 10 Dec) – some of Melbourne’s greatest burger trucks and up and coming newbies will come together to celebrate the fine art of patty flipping.
  • Movies in Christmas Square (Fri 9 Dec) – Bring a chair, beanbag  or blanket and head to “Christmas Square” in the heart of Footscray to get a selfie with Santa from 7.30 – 8.15pm then settle in for a screening of a FREE Christmas movie.
  • Story Island Launch Sunshine Library (Fri 8 Dec) – A special story time, followed by light refreshments will be held at Sunshine Library to launch the exhibit.

  • Essendon Traffic School (Sat 9 Dec) – Essendon Traffic School is a mini road set up for kids aged two to ten years, complete with road signs, railway bells and traffic lights.
  • Beads for Wildlife Twister (Sat 9 Dec – Sun 10 Dec) – Come and play an oversized game of ‘Beads for Wildlife Twister’ with the Performing Zebras from Born in a Taxi this weekend at Werribee Open Range Zoo! As well as the Performing Zebras, there will be face painting and African drumming.

  • Immaculate Conception Festa (Sun 10 Dec) – tarting with Mass at 4pm, and followed by the Procession carrying the statue through the surrounding streets accompanied by two brass bands and ending with a concert back at St Mary’s.
