Wyndham in Melbourne’s west covers Werribee, Point Cook and surrounds it is one of Melbourne’s fastest growing areas. There’s lots to discover in Wyndham and if you don’t live there it’s a fantastic day trip location that’s only 30 minutes from the CBD.
Here are my list of Top 10 places to go in Wyndham with kids. For more ideas check out Experience Wyndham.
- An African Zoo
Out of the three zoos managed by Zoos Victoria, Werribee Open Range Zoo is our favourite. The animals roam in a make-believe African savannah and on the safari bus you’ll spot graceful giraffes, prancing antelope and swaying elephants.
- A historic mansion
Werribee Mansion is a 19th century mansion which is surrounded by 10 hectares of formal gardens and the Victoria State Rose Garden. Entry to the garden is free and you can tour the mansion. Look out for the secret grotto too!
Situated behind Werribee Mansion is the luxurious Mansion Hotel and Spa. I can’t wait to try the high tea there!
- The nature trail
Get back to nature by exploring Werribee River Park, Werribee Gorge State Park, Point Cook Coastal Park, Point Cook Marine Sanctuary, the Wyndham Bay Trail and the little-known beach (with playground) at Werribee South.
- Victoria’s Biggest Water Slides
Aquapulse in Hoppers Crossing boasts Victoria’s biggest water slides, as well as an awesome aquatic playground for smaller kids with endless opportunities to splash and slide. Other facilities include gym, sauna, spa, creche, shop and cafe. FULL REVIEW.
- Stunning playgrounds
There’s a lot of residential development happening in Wyndham and developers know that an awesome playground is a drawcard for families.
We love the free water play at Riverwalk, the huge Harpley Estate, more water play at Crocodile Park Saltwater Coast and the aircraft-themed playground at Williams Landing. New estates such as Jubilee are opening new playgrounds while old favourites such as Presidents Park still draw crowds and Price Reserve at Werribee South Beach has received an upgrade.
- Indoors entertainment
WynCity is an indoors entertainment complex that’s a perfect option when the weather’s too hot, cold or wet to be outside. Try out bowling, neon golf and bumper cars!
Village cinemas in Werribee have babes-in-arms sessions where you can watch the latest new releases with your baby.
Wyndham Cultural Centre often hosts family-friendly theatre, concerts and performances that are also showing at bigger (and more expensive) venues such as Arts Centre Melbourne.
- Toot toot!
- A (fake) truck stop
- Melbourne’s closest winery
Shadowfax Wines is a boutique winery is located near Mansion Hotel and Werribee Open Range Zoo. They serve a child-friendly menu and it’s a particularly relaxing spot on a sunny day when you can chill out on the outside tables or on a picnic rug. FULL REVIEW.
- Werribee’s best coffee
Funky Black Seed is reputed to have Werribee’s best coffee (by Sensory Lab) and their menu has a modern Middle Eastern twist courtesy of the owners’ backgrounds. There’s pram access, high chairs and a small kids menu covering chips to burgers.
