Updated January 2017

Werribee Zoo is open late for ‘Rhythm of Africa’ every Saturday night this summer and it’s a fun way to explore the zoo in the cool of the evening. There’s live music, African-inspired food, dancing, drumming, hair braiding, kids activities, safari tours and more!

From 4:30-8:30pm, there’s an evening performance for kids before the headline act at 5:30pm. Safari Tours run until 6pm and the African Pula Trail, the walking track around the zoo, remains open until 8pm.

We enjoyed playing in the Baby Animal Trail…

…frolicking in the Hippo Beach water play area (including some new additions in the form of a pump and channels)….

…and trying food from the African barbecue while relaxing on the lawns listening to the live music. Note that only the large restaurant Meerkat Bistro and the African BBQ is open during the event ie not the small kiosks or Hippo Beach cafe and I saw lots of people had come with picnics and eskies (the event is also licensed and you can BYO alcohol).
