Ron Barassi Snr Park

Ron Barassi Snr Park in Docklands is named after Ronald Barassi Senior (who inspired AFL’s father-son rule) and includes a fantastic playground, sports field, pavilion and a walking circuit.

For families our pick is the playground with views of the Melbourne Star and Docklands skyscraper, sitting underneath the Citylink freeway and the Bolte Bridge.

You’ll be able to spot the playground as you round Docklands Drive thanks to the dramatically high climbing fort with two massive slides.

Head a bit closer and you’ll notice the huge sandpit with sand play scoops, channels and a sit-on digger…

and the long tyre swing.

It’s surrounded by huge sandbags which look soft but aren’t – but they make perfect stepping stones!

The area is surrounded by a low growth of native plants, giving the space an appealing natural aesthetic in its industrial surrounds. There are also several picnic tables, barbecues and toilets and change facilities inside the pavilion.

There’s plenty of free parking right next to the park (3 hours) and the bike and walking track runs alongside. Ron Barassi Snr Park is also close to the shops at Harbour Town and other Docklands attractions around Newquay such as Monument Park and the Lego Education Centre, so add it to the list on your family-friendly Docklands adventure.

HOT Tips:

  • the playgrounds unfenced;

  • unshaded except for natural shade;
