The delightful Gingerbread Village by EPICURE returns to the Melbourne Town Hall from Monday 1 December to Wednesday 24 December with its display of Melbourne’s iconic landmarks – all made out of gingerbread and fondant icing.
We were invited to a sneak peak of the Gingerbread Village and Lady AB was beside herself when she saw and smelled the freshly baked gingerbread. She was NOT going to be satisfied until she got to eat some so luckily there was gingerbread available for purchase at the display.
With a huge biscuit in hand we inspected the detailed and intricate work of EPICURE’s Executive Pastry Chef Deniz Karaca and his team. Apparently the village has taken four chefs working full time for three months to bring the vision into fruition.
Recognisable Melbourne locations include the Arts Centre Melbourne….
….Melbourne Cricket Ground complete with 2014 premiership finalists and fast food vans outside…
It’s the details that are really astounding – the tiny ice creams and cakes, the expressions of the people and delicately piped icing.
My favourite scene was Luna Park and the famous rickety roller-coaster complete with excited figures throwing their arms up in the air. How cute!
Every year the pastry chefs sneak a little detail just for the adults and this time it’s behind the looong queue for the ladies’ toilets at Flemington (a new location for the village this year). Can you spot it?
