Culture Mamas curate events in Melbourne that encourage mums (and dads and carers generally) to connect with the arts to stimulate their intellect, cheap prostate all in a family-friendly environment and with a supportive group of like-minded parents. They help parents discover a diverse range of arts and culture, at a time and in a space that allows you to bring your baby in a pram or your active toddler.
Culture Mamas have been on my radar for a while because I love the concept. I get cabin fever if I stay at home with my kids for too long and their events appeal to my arty side. I’m sure there are lots of parents like me who hope that they haven’t completely abdicated their brain to nappies and baby talk since having kids. And I met one of the founders of Culture Mamas recently and discovered that our kids attend the same daycare!
One of Culture Mamas’ regular events is the Mama Circles conversations group. It’s a mother’s group with a twist as the 2 hours session is introduced by a speaker with experience in arts and creativity who provides a brief talk on their area of expertise. Then the floor is opened up for general discussion (about the topic, not about sleep routines!) and as it’s held over lunch time you can bring along kids and snacks for kids while you engage in conversation.
The April Mamas Circles speaker is Diane Hilyer from NGV, who will be discussing the importance of visual arts for little ones. The event is on this Thursday 10 April 12-2pm at Jika Jika Community Centre, Northcote.
