Living in the inner city, we are fortunate to be within walking distance to a whole variety of different takeaway joints. Indian, Malaysian, Korean, Japanese, Mexican, Thai – you could have a different cuisine every day of the week.

I never used to eat much takeaway before I had NKOTB (preferring to dine out if I wasn’t going to cook) but now with a baby it’s become a more regular option. We don’t go out to dinner any more as NKOTB sleeps around 6:30-7pm which means that either I cook dinner or we get takeaway if I’m too tired, too busy or too uninspired to cook. (And before your ask, Tim doesn’t cook but he does do the washing up.)

The challenge is to find takeaway that’s cheap, quick and healthy – which is why Hooked is my default choice.

We don’t eat enough fish despite knowing the health benefits of eating 2-3 serves of fish a week, so I like Hooked because it offers fresh fish that caters for both Tim and my tastes. I’ll go for the healthy option – grilled house fish (blue grenadier) with brown rice and bok choy, while Tim will veer towards the tempura battered fish and chips. We both love their sambal sauce with ginger and lemongrass.

It’s very reasonably priced at $12.95 and if I go between 12-4:30pm (and I’m often out walking with NKOTB in the late afternoon witching hour) then the meals are only $9.95 and I just reheat them when it comes to dinner time.

Hooked now have a new menu for summer created by Papa Goose head chef Neale White. Inspired by Neale’s recent trip to Europe and New York, the special menu includes a grilled tuna nicoise salad, fish taco, grilled barramundi burger and freshly shucked Coffin Bay oysters.

Thanks to Hooked I’ve tried the burger and the fish taco and my personal recommendation is the latter – it’s spicy, healthy and filling for $8.90 for one. Just don’t get it takeaway as the soft tortilla won’t survive well on the way home.

Giveaway! Thanks to Hooked, I have two x $30 vouchers to give away to Melbourne residents so that you too can try out their new menu (or order some old favourites) at either the Windsor or Fitzroy branch. Just leave a comment below and the two winners will be drawn randomly and announced on Wednesday 2 November. Good luck!
